The Community Concert Band will not be performing in 2009. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The original band formed as part of a MSAD #41 Adult Education class in October 1981 under the leadership of director James Perkins with their first public performance in April of 1982. In an effort to attract mature instrumentalists from all over the area, the name Community Concert Band was chosen to reflect the non-marching, non-specific-town nature of our group. Over the past 27 years this all volunteer band has provided entertaining music and fun for players and listeners alike with neighborhood "concerts in the park," nursing home visits, centennial celebrations and parade appearances aboard our custom built flatbed band float. Band rehearsals begin in early spring around the first of May and continue on Friday evenings until the end of June. We never know who will be playing in the Band for the summer, nor are we sure of our potential programs until our first appearance in concert. We play old favorites, show tunes, and toe-tapping marches. We make every effort not to conflict with school band programs and end our season at the Piscataquis Valley Fair in late August. We have enjoyed a long and fruitful tradition of summer band music in our neighborhoods. The band is always on the lookout for talented instrumentalists who share our love of community service through music making and we enjoy having visitors sit in when they are available. Over the years we have been fortunate to have a number of school educators who have valued the summer band experience enough to help us with musical direction, additional musicians, sponsorship, music, stands, and rehearsal space.
